Richmond-based pet and garden supplies shop Maynells has donated dozens of plants to NHS workers at the local community hospital amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shop owner John Meynell donated the plants to the Friary Community Hospital and said he wanted to show his “support to NHS staff at this difficult time”.

He told Richmondshire Today that he has “always had a great affinity” for Richmond Friarage Hospital.

“They have always been very kind to our family and I appreciate how lucky we are to have a hospital to liken the Friary in our community. I just wanted to say thank you to the staff for their support and help to Richmond and thought a few plants would help them enjoy the free time that they do get.”

The news comes as the staff at Burnham Pet Shop in Somerset has donated essential items to NHS staff at Weston Hospital amid the Covid-19 virus.

According to Burnham-on-sea.com, the pet shop staff has donated a wide range of toiletries items which include, shampoo and body wash and chocolates.
