Insect ingredient producer Protix has appointed Maiko van der Meer as chief executive officer, effective November 2025.
Van der Meer has nearly 30 years of experience in the food and feed industries, having held senior leadership roles at Unilever, Mowi, Vion Food Group, Klaas Puul, Storteboom Food Group and Tyson Foods.
In recent years, his work has focused on alternative proteins, including algae, plant-based, mycoprotein and cultured meat production.
In his new role, Van der Meer will oversee Protix’s global expansion and strengthen its position in supplying insect-based ingredients to aquafeed, livestock feed and pet food manufacturers.
Protix, headquartered in the Netherlands, produces insect-based proteins and lipids used in animal nutrition and feed applications.
Van der Meer said: “With rising demand for meat and seafood and the need for more sustainable food systems, Protix is well placed to contribute to that transition. The company has a strong team, advanced technology and valuable partnerships, and I look forward to supporting its next stage of development.”
