Gower Granary relaunches small animal range with bilingual branding

Welsh farm business Gower Granary has relaunched its small animal hay and straw range with redesigned packaging, expanded retail presence and a new brand ambassador. Gower Granary, based on the Gower Peninsula, has updated its packaging to include built-in handles, bilingual Welsh branding and clearer product information. The newly designed bags are now available in more than 30 independent retailers, including Killay Pet Shop in Swansea, Zoars Ark in Neath and Dewkes in Mumbles, as well as larger outlets such as Wynnstay and CCF. The business has also partnered with Will's Petting Farm, founded by 18-year-old Will Evans, as an ambassador for the range. The updated range will be on show at the Gower Show on 3 August, where Gower Granary and Will's Petting Farm will exhibit alongside another stockist, Country Stores of Gowerton. Gower Granary's hay and straw are hand-packed on its farm using Welsh-grown forage, either from its own land or from partner farms. The packaging is fully recyclable and made from 30% recycled plastic. The business began producing small animal bedding and forage in 2022 as part of a farm diversification project supported by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. Its chopped wheat bedding straw, the best-selling product, is now used by Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo in Pembrokeshire and by Aberystwyth University's equine centre. Evans said: "At Will's Petting Farm our animals mean the world to us – and we always want the very best for them. That's why we use Gower Granary's premium range of small animal forage and bedding." He added: "Our rabbits, guinea pigs and other furry friends absolutely love the fresh, natural quality of the hays. Timothy and Meadow Hay are not only tasty treats, but they also play a vital role in maintaining healthy digestion and dental care." Chris Harry Thomas, managing director, said: "At the outset it was important to us not to waste the existing HuwBryn bags, but we knew that as soon as we could we wanted to bring the branding in line with the rest of our Gower Granary range. "We have also increased the weight of the contents so that customers are getting better value for money. We've used feedback from existing stockists to help us improve the bag design. One thing was clear; people love the built-in handles and, of course, the quality of the hay and straw which is on a different level to much of what is sold today."
