Edgard & Cooper expands into cat food

Healthy pet food company Edgard & Cooper has announced it is launching a cat food range, built on the same three key principles as its range for dogs: fresh, tasty and with fresh meat, made and sourced ethically and driving 10% of profits to charity.

The addition of the range comes at a time when the number of UK cat owners is growing. Over 20% of households now have a cat, an increase that can be attributed to growing the number of people living in small, rented flats with no outside space.

Both the wet and dry Edgard & Cooper cat food ranges are grain-free and contain 60-65% fresh meat. Three of the adult recipes are organic and contain herbs, flowers and berries for holistic wellbeing, a reflection of the trend towards humanisation of pet food. In keeping with the brand’s stance on health and nutrition, the range is entirely meat meal-free.

The manufacturer has launched 10 wet food recipes including salmon and chicken, turkey and shrimp, cod and chicken and lamb and beef. All the white fish is MSC/ASC approved. The dry kibble comes in four recipes for kitten, adult and senior which contains 30% protein.

Co-founder Louis Chalabi said: “We first began to consider branching out when we started hearing from customers whose cats were dipping into their dog’s bowls of Edgard & Cooper. What was really important to us was retaining our focus on sustainability.

“To this end, we worked hard to land on 100% biodegradable bags (typically a challenge for cat food, which is packed with protein and oils). We’ve also ensured that the fish we’ve used comes from certified sustainable sources (MSC and ASC).”
