The chief executive of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Claire Horton MBA, was last week honoured at the Institute of Directors (IoD) 2017 London & South East Director of the Year Awards.

Receiving the award for Public/Third Sector Director of the Year, a category in which there were four other finalists, Claire said: “I’m thrilled and humbled to have won this award and feel deeply honoured to be in the company of some of the UK’s most successful business leaders.”

Claire, who joined the Home as chief executive in June 2010 and has over 30 years’ management experience across the voluntary sector, added: “These IoD Awards are not just about celebrating individuals, every business leader is only as good as the team they work with, so these awards are very much about them too – they are a celebration of the people who bring the passion, commitment, knowledge and expertise that make UK organisations the successes they are.”

Claire represents companion animal welfare on the Animal Health and Welfare Board for England (AHWBE) and is chairman of the Association of Dog and Cat Homes, that brings together over 120 rescue and rehoming organisations across the UK and Channel Islands.
